Sustainable Flooring and Decking
Bamboo Select
Worldwide and in Australia, Bamboo is now suggested as a serious flooring alternative. A sustainable renewable resource that is one of the most striking, hardwearing and unique products on the market today.
Yes, Bamboo! The product has been around for many years and is popular in commercial applications but only now, as we become more environmentally aware, is its popularity growing and becoming more common in the residential market.
Bamboo Select's flooring and associated products are non-toxic, allergy free, environmentally friendly, durable and repel termites. Quick and easy to install - they are delivered already coated in a matte, gloss or semi-gloss finished product and delivered in recyclable packaging.
Because they are already coated, this eliminates the unnecessary mess and dangerous fumes normally associated with onsite sanding and polishing.
There are 3 basic styles: Horizontal, Vertical and Strand Woven. All of these styles of board are available as standard width or the increasing popular wide board, and come in both short and the popular long board.
In the past, the most limiting aspect of bamboo flooring is that it did not come in a wide range of colours. The standard colours offered are generally only two: a natural colour, very much like the bamboo trunk, as well as a darker golden brown color.
Bamboo Select has exciting news for the environmentally aware that are searching for a range of colored bamboo. We now have bamboo in all styles. The standard colours are Chocolate, Black, Cherry and Limewash and you can choose many other colours; just allow a lead-time of 10 to 12 weeks for delivery.
Bamboo flooring can now be supplied as a fine sanded raw product, matched to a colour of your choice, then sealed and polished on site.
Independent tests have shown that bamboo, particularly the Strand Woven product, has a greater hardness than many hardwood timbers. Bamboo floorboards can be installed over plywood, particleboard and concrete sub-floors.
Different manufacturers recommend different installation methods. Some prefer to glue and secret nail while others prefer a floating floor method and, of course, the flooring can be installed by direct stick method onto a concrete slab. A DIY enthusiast can also install the product but, if doing so, should always follow manufacturer's instructions.
Maintenance of bamboo floors is quite easy: just use a damp mop for cleaning when required. Any spills should be cleaned immediately.
If exposed to direct sunlight over long periods, bamboo flooring can darken so direct sunlight should be avoided. Timber flooring generally fades under the same conditions.
As dust mites cannot be harboured, bamboo is an excellent choice for asthma and allergy sufferers.
Aside from the benefit of using an environmentally sustainable resource, bamboo floors feel and look good, are durable, easy to clean and unique and elegant in style. And when your friends see it, they will be surprised and say "Bamboo? Really - how unique!"
