Ecosilk bags were created in 1999 by Emily Hay, who was dismayed with the widespread acceptance of plastic bag use in society, and the lack of a viable alternative. As a pattern-maker/fashion designer, she developed the basic design of a plastic bag, using a durable nylon fabric called parachute silk. After trialling the bags for two years and finding them to be ideal in every way, Emily started the business – Ecosilk Bags – in February 2001, with some initial help from a friend. It is now a full scale manufacturing production in China, while still being operated from Lismore, Australia. High standards of workmanship, reliable quality control processes, and the fair and ethical treatment of workers, have all been maintained.

Our Bags

As a stylish alternative to plastic bags, our new generation eco-friendly shopping bag range incorporates fashion and the caring for the environment. The bags are made from endlessly recyclable 100% nylon parachute silk. They are light and compact, fitting into any handbag or pocket, while also being incredibly strong, easily carrying up to 13 kilos. Lasting a minimum of 5 years, Ecosilk bags eliminate the use of many hundreds of plastic bags in their life cycle, and look good at the same time. They are:

  • Available in many vibrant colours.
  • In different designs for different needs, as shown on our website
  • Stylish for special occasions or everyday use.
  • Light and compact, fitting easily into the smallest handbag, ready to use at the grocery store, cosmetic counter or fashion boutique.

Our Rosette Ecobag has a very stylish rosette attached, adding fashion flair, while our Fruit & Vegie Bags are very practical replacements for a variety of supermarket bags. The Fruit & Vegie Bags can also be used for potato, onion and mushroom storage, library bags, travelling and general storage.

Ecosilk bags look terrific screen-printed, adding a polished touch to conferences, special events and promotions. Screen-printing of company logos is a great way of promoting your business. Not only are you actively supporting the environmental push away from plastic bags, which is an on-going issue in today’s world, you are also ensuring long term – five year plus – advertising exposure of your brand. It makes good business sense. We welcome wholesale and fundraising event inquiries.
