World Environment Day Awards 2008 - A National Awards Program
NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN Australia-wide for the United Nations Association of Australia World Environment Day Awards 2008. The Awards recognise those businesses, local governments, community organisations, schools, individuals and the media whose work serves to promote, manage or restore the environment.
In 2008, a new Award will be presented; the 'Building Commission Award for Best Sustainable Residential Development'.
This new Award is in line with the 2008 United Nations World Environment Day theme "Kick the Habit - Towards a Low Carbon Economy", and 2008 being the International Year of Planet Earth. The United Nations seek to focus particular attention on global warming and oppportunities for countries, companies and communities to de-carbonise their economies and lifestyles.
Other categories include: Sustainability Victoria Meeting the Greenhouse Challenge Award; ITW Industrial Packaging Education/School Award; Lincolne Scott Triple Bottom Line Award; Szencorp Green Building Award; DSE Excellence in Marine and Coastal Management Award; Business Sustainability Awards; Local Government Awards; ; Excellence in Sustainable Water Management Award; Media Award for Environmental Reporting; Community and Individual Awards.
