Welcome to Gecko - Gold Coast & Hinterland Environment Council

Nominate someone you know for a Gecko Award - nominations close 21 November.

Email the Minister for Mines and Energy and tell him to Put the Powerlines Underground.

Gecko is the peak regional environment group, working to promote, protect, conserve and restore the natural environment and improve the sustainability of the built environment of the entire Gold Coast region, including its magnificent hinterland areas.

Established in 1989, Gecko is a volunteer, not-for-profit, non-party-political, community-minded group which works to achieve its aims through avenues such as campaign action, conducting a wide range of educational events and activities, media releases, responding to public concerns, maintaining an up-to-date environmental resource library, and active hands-on revegetation work.

Some recent awards have included:

Gecko is funded via memberships, donations, hall hire, volunteer labour, and through applying for grants.

Gecko has also established a business called Gecko Regen to provide further funding and help to achieve its aims. Another business, Gecko Educators, is in its infancy as a new Gecko venture and looks very promising as delivering quality environmental education to students and the general public.
