The Number 8 Group's sole purpose is to distribute or invest all net profits for charitable causes. Green Light Couriers is unique because: We recognise that our industry harms the environment and we are Melbourne's first and only courier service company to make a public commitment to becoming part of the solution, rather than simply being part of the problem. 100% of Green Light Couriers' net profits are used for good. The Number 8 Group distributes or invests all profits received from Green Light Couriers for charitable purposes. On 9 February 2007, The Number 8 Group announced the successful applicants in its inaugural funding round. Thanks to the work of Green Light Couriers, and most importantly to the loyalty of our clients, Number 8 is donating four grants of $10,000 each to Melbourne-based charities. Environment Green Light Couriers is proud to be Melbourne's first and only courier company to make a public commitment to 'going green'. We take our environmental responsibilities so seriously that we have built an ongoing environmental evaluation process into our business model. In August 06 we announced the launch of Melbourne's very first hybrid courier! Our brand new Honda Civic Hybrid, which recently won the 'World Car of the Year Award' for Greenest car, is on the road now. Keep an eye out for it! Green Light Couriers is now a member of Greenfleet, which means that our entire fleet's carbon emissions will be offset by projects that Greenfleet undertake on our behalf. Our Fleet The transport industry damages the environment and unfortunately it has been slow to address the problem. At Green Light Couriers, we want to be part of the solution. We are currently researching a range of options for improving the environmental impact of our fleet. Green Light Couriers has introduced a policy of employing drivers with vehicles that run on LPG wherever possible. Such vehicles provide a 15% reduction in carbon emissions compared to standard fuel emissions - a significant environmental benefit. At present, 44% of our fleet runs on LPG, which results in an 18.7-tonne reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per annum.
