Hi All,

To those of you looking at making people's homes more energy efficient (one of my big things) the government's Green Loans scheme is to be ended;

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/green-loans-latest-example-of-climate-waste/story-e6frgczf-1225889581536

Unfortunately, this news doesn't surprise me.

I've been involved in the scheme since undertaking training last October, and the scheme has been woefully managed by almost all concerned. Very few organisations can come out of this looking good, and unfortunately, as usually happens, it will be the individuals actually doing the assessments that suffer.

These people were possibly the best thing about the scheme. They have the same vision and understanding about the possibilities of the effects that more efficient homes could have (25% of all greenhouse gases Australia produces are currently produced from the home) and actually gave a damn about this, realising the difference the scheme could have made.

Unfortunately, this scheme was a great idea that was executed awfully by the Federal Government. However, we still feel that the idea was a great one, so we're carrying on with our mission to help people's homes become a more sustainable and comfortable place to live. We can't do any worse than the Government, can we?

Hi Group, Get involved in CSIRO's Energymark! I have recently volunteered to run an Energymark group and I would like to invite you to join me. Energymark is a CSIRO project which uses a kitchen table approach to help households and communities reduce their carbon footprints and save power. We will meet about once a month and I am working on setting up an online Go to Meeting. As an Energymark participant you will have the opportunity to: * become better informed on energy, climate change, water and waste issues * engage in public debate on these issues * reduce your impact on the environment * lower your carbon footprint at home, work and in the community * reduce your energy consumption and save on power bills. Energymark provides balanced information on climate change and energy technologies, and practical advice on how to save energy around the home. We will also tackle broader sustainability issues like transport, waste and water. There are eight sessions in total. As Energymark is also part of CSIRO research program there are a number of questionnaires to be completed throughout the program. For more information on Energymark visit www.energymark.com.au If you are interested in joining my Energymark group give me a call on (02 6644 6064). You will be required to register online by clicking the following link: http://www.keysurvey.com/survey/336478/1426/?LQID=1&LQID=1&SFObj=Account&integrationSurveyID=1635&EMGID=a0890000003OeWr If the link does not open, please copy and paste the address into the address bar of your internet browser. Hi all, got a new tip for helping to reduce evaporation and heat loss from swimming pools. Came accross a product called 'Ecosavr' which is a liquid solar pool cover. see www.ecosavr.com for info. I found it at a local Mitre 10 store (one of the bigger ones). Should cut evaporation and heat loss by up to 40%, snip and drop it in! I don't have a pool but will be getting a friend to try it - measuring the differences will be subjective though! Anyway - if you have a pool, take a look. All the best for 2011 everyone!
