Description:
Hi - We all need to get away from time to time, so it is good to know that you can choose to stay in accommodation that cares for the environment as much as you do. My name is Amanda and I look after the Australian ecohotel web directory which gives plenty of info great places to stay that take responsible and sustainable tourism seriously. And there is a great choice - from camping grounds, budget hostels, ecotents, city hotels (the hardest to get right!) and luxury green resort style accommodation.

We'd love to get to know other people who care about responsible tourism and who have some reviews of places they have stayed, feedback about sustainable tourism, or suggestions of how we can all improve in this area....

Dreaming about escaping to tropical Queensland during these cold winter months? Check out the latest addition to the ecohotel web directory - Heron Island resort. With Advanced Ecotourism accreditation, Heron Island is protects some of Australia's most precious seabirds and turtles - a great place to fing out more about these special creatures while indulging in some R&R!

Some info about Heron Island is below or please visit http://www.ecohotel.com.au/qld.html for further details and photos of this beautiful part of Australia.

Heron Island is located just off the coast of Gladstone and boasts some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. Heron Island is a coral cay, meaning it is completely composed of sand and coral fragments. The island is surrounded by 24 square kilometres of reef and boasts several nesting spots for green and loggerhead turtles.

Heron Island offers a unique experience where you can truly immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. Among the music of seabirds, tracks of turtles and multi-coloured clouds of fish, the feeling that you're a guest of nature itself is inescapable. Reef walking, viewing underwater life from the coral submarine, watching the sun set over the ocean - you become part of a community caught up in the timeless evolution of the world's largest living thing - the Great Barrier Reef.

The resort on the island, Heron Island Resort, offers several standards of accommodation designed to suit all tastes and budgets.

Hi Group, Get involved in CSIRO's Energymark! I have recently volunteered to run an Energymark group and I would like to invite you to join me. Energymark is a CSIRO project which uses a kitchen table approach to help households and communities reduce their carbon footprints and save power. We will meet about once a month and working on setting up an Online Go to Meeting option. As an Energymark participant you will have the opportunity to: * become better informed on energy, climate change, water and waste issues * engage in public debate on these issues * reduce your impact on the environment * lower your carbon footprint at home, work and in the community * reduce your energy consumption and save on power bills. Energymark provides balanced information on climate change and energy technologies, and practical advice on how to save energy around the home. We will also tackle broader sustainability issues like transport, waste and water. There are eight sessions in total. As Energymark is also part of CSIRO research program there are a number of questionnaires to be completed throughout the program. For more information on Energymark visit www.energymark.com.au If you are interested in joining my Energymark group give me a call on 02 66446064.
