built-in wardrobe materials and indoor air quality 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Can anybody tell me what is a good material for built-in wardrobes? I need to put in some storage in the baby's room , in fact right next to where the baby's head will be, and don't know what material would be best, both for the doors and the interior. There's glass (probably good for air quality, but not for a kid's room); particle-board covered in melamine, particle board painted, timber veneer, etc. Also the interior shelves, etc, which I think are usually melamine.

Any info? Anyone? Help!!!

Be careful with the particle board as it normally contains high concentrations of formaldehyde.

I would talk to a carpenter that sources materials from a sustainable source. Normally, solid woods are the best, but they do need to come from a sustainable resource.

Secondly, a salvage yard would be a great resource for timber products.

Normal wood is fine - you just need to question the supplier to make sure it is chemical free and from a sustainable source.
